Vahid Shahbazbegian (UVA)
Seconded from The University of Vaasa (Finland) to RMIT Europe (Barcelona)
Vahid's background is in electrical engineering, and research interests include electricity markets, demand response, electric vehicles, integrated operation of multi-energy systems & planning #renewable energy systems for cost-effective and resilient transition to low-carbon energy systems, power system, local energy & flexibility markets, battery storage systems & multi-carrier energy systems.
Vahid’s secondment experience:
He was seconded to RMIT Europe, in Barcelona, and here he shares his experience with us:
- If you could provide one piece of advice to anyone thinking about doing a secondment, what would it be?
If I could provide one piece of advice to anyone thinking about doing a secondment, it would be to approach the experience with an open mind and a willingness to learn. A secondment can be a great opportunity to gain new skills, expand your network, and gain exposure to different cultures and ways of working. To make the most of the experience, it’s important to be receptive to new ideas and perspectives, and to actively seek out opportunities to learn and collaborate with others.
- What is something new that has been embedded into your approach to your research as a result of your secondment, how has the secondment impacted your research?
It was great that the secondment had a positive impact on my research by giving me new ideas and inspiration to investigate new subjects. Broadening my knowledge and exposure to different fields and ongoing projects had a significant impact on my research approach, as it could help me to identify new research questions, methods, and perspectives.
- Â Can you give us an example of a tangible knowledge transfer/exchange that took place during your secondment?
Yes, making effective connections with people in other fields to conduct new research was a tangible knowledge transfer/exchange that took place during the secondment. This involved building relationships and networks with researchers and professionals from different backgrounds and fields, sharing knowledge and expertise, and collaborating on research projects.
- Â What was the most valuable aspect of your secondment?
Some researchers may say the most valuable aspect of a secondment is the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge in a specific area of work. However, I believe that it is the chance to work with colleagues from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
