D2.2 Case studies on Research Translation in Fin Tech

Work package (WP) 2 – FinTech – of the OpenInnoTrain project has focused on regulatory sandboxes. Regulatory sandboxes can be perceived as specialised business incubators that offer support services to FinTech start-ups. Three studies have been conducted: The first study aimed at understanding the context regulatory sandboxes operate in by exploring entrepreneurial ecosystems in the FinTech context. The second study focused on the activities in regulatory sandboxes. The third study explored the impact of interactions between participants in regulatory sandboxes on the practices of regulators and FinTech start-ups participating in regulatory sandboxes. The findings reveal how collaboration between different actors in the entrepreneurial ecosystem can accelerate innovation in FinTech startups. However, the findings also reveal that universities and other research institutions play a limited role in the entrepreneurial ecosystems in the FinTech context, and further research is needed to identify cases of university-industry collaboration in the FinTech context and investigate how research is transferred in these cases.
