Morteza Vahid Ghavidel (INESC TEC)
Seconded from INESC TEC (Portugal) to Merinova (Finland)
Morteza's research interests include optimization in power systems, demand response, multi-energy systems, energy storage, and electricity markets.
Morteza's secondment experience:
He was seconded to Merinova for one month, and here he shares his experience with us:
“Reflecting on my secondment experience at Merinova, I can confidently say that it was truly enriching. The center had a friendly and welcoming environment, much like INESC-TEC. Throughout my time there, I had the pleasure of working under the guidance of Dr. Tauno Kekale, my supervisor, who was incredibly supportive and helpful. He introduced me to several ongoing projects at Merinova that aligned perfectly with my PhD research area. Notably, projects like Bothnia Green Energy, ALBATTS, and RIPEET caught my attention. These projects focused on exploring the potential of replacing conventional energy sources with green alternatives, emphasizing the utilization of renewable energy resources. Additionally, they delved into the impact of demand-side management and energy storage on the performance of energy systems.
One of the highlights of my secondment was participating in the “Energy Communities and Local Energy Initiatives" workshop. The workshop covered the latest developments and policy recommendations related to energy communities in Finland, along with the opportunities they present for the regional energy transition in Ostrobothnia. The insights gained from this workshop were invaluable to my research.
For future secondees considering a visit to Merinova, I wholeheartedly recommend it as an exceptional R&D center akin to our own INESC-TEC. It provides an excellent platform for addressing industry-related issues in Nordic countries. Based on my experience, I advise choosing a period between May and August (excluding July, due to the summer holiday month) for the secondment, considering the weather and daylight circumstances in the region."
